First, watch what you’re eating.  Fatty, greasy, carbohydrate-laden food isn’t doing anything good for your skin.  It’s the idea of “garbage-in, garbage-out.”  If you put crap into your body, the rest of it will reflect that.  So what’s crap?  Fast food, processed snacks, taco truck food, and anything with a lot of meat on it.  I’m not going to tell you to cut all of that out, just eat it in moderation.  Instead, base your meals around fresh fruit, veggies, and nuts.  This food is much easier for your body to process and will give it the nutrition that it needs for you to clear your skin up.

Along the same lines, back all of your healthy food up with water.  Water helps to keep your skin hydrated, rather than dry or oily.  The more you can drink the better, and most people will recommend that you get at least a half-gallon per day to get rid of acne and stay healthy.

Third, find an acne treatment that suits your skin type.  There are hundreds of different treatments to get rid of acne on the market so one is bound to meet your skin type.  Your skin type is oily, dry, or balanced and I’m sure that you have a good idea of what yours is, if not look in the mirror and figure it out.  It’s a good idea to start with something that’s labeled for your skin type.  If you have dry skin, find a product that says that it won’t dry your skin.  If you have oily skin, find a treatment that doesn’t have any added oil.

Testing out these products is where patience comes into play.  Not every one is going to help you out, and some might even make your skin worse.  The biggest sign that something isn’t helping is if it severely dries out your skin.  This generally happens when the active ingredients are too concentrated for your skin.  You might think that’s a sign of it working, but severely dry skin causes a whole different set of problems which don’t help you get rid of your acne!

The right product is going to be one that doesn’t dry your skin and treats acne over time.  Give each treatment at least an entire bottle or jar worth of time before deciding it isn’t right.  Acne medication takes time to work, and there’s a chance that it might even make your skin worse for a few days before it really kicks in.  This happens because the active ingredients are pulling the junk out from deep into your skin and to the surface, causing more acne.  The Acne Free treatment is notorious for this, and it happened to me when I used it, but after a few days it started to clear my skin up fast.

Getting rid of acne isn’t too tough when you follow these steps, but it does take dedication to get the job done.  Your only other alternative is to just wait and hope that it goes away on its own!
